NextFlex is America’s Flexible Hybrid Electronic Innovation Institute. Formed in 2015 through a cooperative agreement between the US Department of Defense (DoD) and FlexTech Alliance, NextFlex is a consortium of companies, academic institutions, nonprofits, and state, local, and federal governments with a shared goal of advancing U.S. Manufacturing. As a young organization, NextFlex had never pursued, nor been awarded, a competitive federal grant in workforce development prior to 2018.
In NextFlex’s first foray into the world of federal grants, New Growth supported the organization to write a successful application to the National Science Foundation (NSF) that was awarded. Following the notification of award, New Growth provided additional support helping NextFlex prepare for NSF’s Financial Readiness Review, which was a new process for the organization. Preparatory work included the development of written financial policies for management of federal grant funds that complied with Uniform Administrative Requirements for federal awards and specific regulations for the NSF. New Growth prepared NextFlex’s finance team to meet federal award management and compliance requirements.
In total, NextFlex and New Growth have collaborated successfully to attain over $10,000,000 in grant funding. The NextFlex administrative team has remained in compliance since Day 1. New Growth continues to work with the NextFlex team on a variety of compliance-related tasks.
